Prof. Roman Domański was born in 1943 and graduated from Tadeusz Rejtan's secondary school in Warsaw (1961). Graduated from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology (1967). Doctorate 1967 with distinction, habilitation 1988. In 1989-1992 he was a lecturer, and since 1993 a professor at the Warsaw University of Technology. He received the title of professor in 1995, and in 2001 the position of full professor at the Institute of Thermal Technology of the Warsaw University of Technology. He has been associated with the Institute of Aviation since 1992. Head of the Department of Thermodynamics of the Institute of Heat Engineering in 1991-2012. Deputy Director of the Institute of Thermal Technology for Science (1991-1992), Director of the Department of Science Studies and Analyses of the Ministry of National Education (1995, 1996). Deputy Rector for Science at the Warsaw University of Technology and Economics in 2000-2008. Director and founder of the University Research Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems at the Warsaw University of Technology (2010-2012). Scientific activity in the field of laser radiation surges on the surface of opaque bodies, cooling of blades and highly thermally loaded motor components, TBC barriers, energy accumulation including phase transformations, multiphase flows, measurements of thermal properties, energy conversion, renewable energy sources. Extensive didactic activity at the Warsaw University of Technology and other higher education institutions at all levels of studies. Foreign cooperation with Japan, Sweden, Germany, USA, Iceland. Lectures in the USA, Japan, England, Iceland, Portugal. Supervisor of several hundred diploma and transitional theses in Polish and English. Promoter and supervisor of 13 doctoral theses. Manager and executor of several dozen of research projects carried out at State Committee for Scientific Research KBN, The National Centre for Research and Development and European projects. Member of the European Council of the Executive Committee of the European Council through Energy Storage IEA Programme (2001-2010). In 1999-2003 Vice-Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Aviation. Member of the Board of the Polish Solar Energy Society, currently Vice-Chairman. Since 1996 member of the Committee for Thermodynamics and Combustion of the Polish Academy of Sciences (in the years 2007-2015 Vice-Chairman). Member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Atomic Energy (since 2012). Member of the Senate Commission for Science of the WUT (two terms). Winner of many awards and distinctions (including 6 minister's awards), honored with the medal of the Commission of National Education, the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Member of the Warsaw Scientific Society since 2004. Author and co-author of over 260 publications, 8 monographs and 10 scripts. Organizer and chairman of many important national and international conferences, including FutureStock (2003), Newac (2009), International Energy Congress (2011, 2012, 2014). Since 2003 Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Aviation. Since 2017 Chairman of the Committee of Science of the Institute of Aviation and Vice-Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Aviation. |
